About Clover
Clover aims to provide a "front room" transitional space between a large hospital and the surrounding public. Through the services and experiences held in the facility, we aim to enable trust and comfort to all members of the community that would eventually encourage people to participate in clinical trials.

Project
Overview
This project was done in collaboration between Industrial Design and Architecture students, tasked with rethinking the primary care system and space in order to encourage people to participate in clinical trials. Through this project, we wanted to create a patient-centric environment that could build community, knowledge, trust, and ease.
Why are clinical trials important?
Clinical trials are crucial in the development of new medicine, tailored treatments, and medical advancement. They are designed to test the safety and efficacy of new treatments, which would aid in the improvement of overall standard of care as well as more tailored treatments for different types of people and populations.
Current challenges in primary care
Overwhelmed facilities and staff
Healthcare is reactive, not proactive
Lack of community in the space

LOCATION
Grady Hospital (Atlanta, GA)
SQ FOOTAGE
22,032 sq ft

The average wait time for each visit at Grady was 110 minutes in 2016.
According to the NIH, about 27.1% of ER visits can be handled at an Urgent Care Facility.
Grady has a Google review score of about 2.7 stars, despite being Atlanta's #1 trauma center.

This is Clover.

We created a "front room" transitional space between a large hospital (in this case, Grady) and the public that encourages participation in clinical trials, fosters community, and provides an urgent care space for an overloaded ER center. This model can be replicated across other hospitals facing similar issues.
This space is divided into four wings: the Iris Wing for contagious/symptomatic patients, the Lavender Wing for non-contagious/asymptomatic patients, the Fern Wing which includes community spaces, and the Sunflower Wing where clinical trials are administered.
As the scope of my role in this project did not extend to architectural forms, I will not be detailing the space as much and focusing on my contributions in this project. If you're interested in that side of this project, see our process deck linked at the bottom!

Bridging the Gap
The Clover Healthcare app provides a platform that secures a patient's personal information while also connecting the user to personalized events and opportunities that bring them back to the space.

Live appointment guidance
The interface changes according to the user's scheduled appointment wing and assists users from check in to check out.
Community outreach
Users will receive notifications on classes and events that may interest them (based on perviously liked material) to encourage them to come back to the facility.

Connecting the space
Kiosks and screens established throughout the facility provide information appropriate to the wing. QR cans can be scanned through the app and pages or events can be saved to view later for the user.
