A bedside lamp designed for light sensitive individuals, featuring multiple color and display options, as well as gradual brightening and darkening.
The Problem
Light sensitivity is a common symptom associated with a multitude of conditions, specifically involving a sensitivity to bright/flashing lights. This becomes a larger problem at night, when the contrast between the darkness of a room and the abrupt brightness of a light can cause quite a bit of discomfort. The goal here is to create a bedside lamp that would alleviate the harshness or contrast between the on and off modes that most lights have.

Initially...
I wanted to explore desk lighting for people with light sensitivity, but after researching a bit I found that it might be a bit counterproductive, since the lighting from laptops would still be too harsh in a “work” setting for my purposes, so I decided to reroute and aim for a setting in which my product would be the only source of light.
Design Insight
I myself suffer from mild light sensitivity, so finding multiple ways to reduce the stress on my eyes is something I have always done. I wanted to incorporate the methods by which I adjust existing lighting for my sensitive eyes.
Usually, I point my harsh overhead desk lamp towards the wall in order to redirect and diffuse the light against a surface: this method inspired my entire concept for this project. I wanted to create something designed to be cast against a surface.

On and Off
Ormi can be turned on and off using the button under the face display. There is a gradual increase/decrease in brightness when activated, with about a 7 second duration.
Two Displays
While the panel in the front provides a glowing, softer light and a “face” display, the panel in the back shines a brighter light against any surfaces it faces, creating diffused light and ambience.
Multiple Colors
Using an external remote, ormi can display any desired color! The two displays are connected, so whichever color you choose for one will also translate to the other.
